The HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 Server offers an architecture optimized for Big Data Analytics, Software-Defined Storage, backup and archive, and other data storage-intensive workloads. It's unique, easily serviceable 2U design saves data center space with up to 28 LFF or 54 SFF hot plug drives. It delivers accelerated performance with superior bandwidth and balanced architecture, Intel Xeon Processors, and NVMe-connected SSDs.
The focus on security extends from FIPS 140-2 Level 1 validated storage controllers down to the system silicon level, taking full advantage of HPE innovations in firmware protection, malware detection, and recovery. HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 Base Knowledge
The Apollo 4200 has two rows of drives, one behind the other. This system will appear to have 12 LFF or 24 SFF drives. But with two rows of drives, the chassis actually holds 24LFF or 48SFF. The mixing of the drive form factor is not supported. The front 2 drive bay have to be the same (all SFF or all LFF). This Apollo 4200 Gen10 supports rear drive options. The Rear Drive Cages are 4 LFF Drives (only on the 24LFF chassis) or 6 SFF NVMe SSD, 6 SFF SAS/SATA, and the last option provides Dual FHHL PCIe Slots. The 2 SFF 2 FHHL Riser kit, when this kit is installed, you'll also need the HPE Apollo 4200 P824i-p Enablement Kit (P11274-B21).
This Chassis holds 1 HPE ProLiant XL420 Gen10 motherboard. This motherboard holds 2 Processors Mixing of 2 different processor models is NOT allowed The Apollo 4200 Gen10 has up to 16 DIMM Slots on a two-socket configuration. The motherboard can support HPE Persistent Memory featuring Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory. This memory is only supported with select 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable Series. Mixing RDIMM and LRDIMM memory is not supported.
If any of the rear drive cages are installed, you will need to also install one of the following storage controllers. HPE 2nd Cage FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (813546-B21), HPE Software RAID FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09655-B21), or HPE Smart Array E/P SR FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09656-B21).
Finally, if you install the 6SFF SAS/SATA Rear drive cage you must install the HPE Smart Array E/P SR FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09656-B21).

HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 NVMe Drives
If you install the rear drive cage for the 6 NVMe drives. You will also need a card that can support these drives. HPE NVMe CPU2 x6 FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09657-B21) or HPE NVMe CPU1 x4/CPU2 x2 FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09658-B21). When no controller mode is selected, all 6 SFF NVMe will be connected to processor 1 through PCIe slot 2. When HPE NVMe CPU2 x6 FIO Controller Mode for Rear Storage (P09657-B21) is selected, all 6 SFF NVMe SSDs will be connected to processor 2 through PCIe slot 6.
HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 PCI Risers
There are 7 Total PCIe slots but Slots 4 and 5 are only available with the rear riser cage installed (P07248-B21). This Riser cage will provide 2 extra SFFs and 2 FHHL PCIe slots. When this Riser cage is installed PCIe slot 2 will not be available. This slot is where the riser cage sits.
